Cute Mikan ventures into Tokyo when her best friend Hotaru is taken away to attend a special school called Gakuen Alice. Once she finds the school Mikan is not allowed inside to see her and is on the verge of innocently getting into the car of a pair of strangers (intent on kidnapping her) when one of the schools teachers comes upon them and uses some kind of power to persuade the strangers to go away. He then uses the power to tell Mikan to go home, but it appears to have no effect on her, which makes him curious. He offers to let her take the entrance exam so she can enter the school as a student and Mikan agrees and then is shocked when the teacher violently prevents a boy from 'escaping' the school. Despite this Mikan enters the school/prison and is soon astounded by her fellow students which possess special 'Alices' or powers.

Picture cute little kids that can read your mind, levitate you, channel evil spirits or create illusions...
