Whistle!! Anime Summary
Mizuno a talented player on the Sakura Jyousui team seeks out Shou after hearing about Katori-Sensei's mix-up and is impressed by Shou's hard work. He challenges the team captain to a game in order to become captain himself so the team can get in more training to improve their standing in the school tournaments (something the existing captain has given up on) and he ropes Shou in to be on his side. The storyline follows Shou's steps as he gradually improves at the game and the different challenges he and the team face along the way. I'd recommend this anime even if you're not a football fan (I aren't and I loved it!!!).

Whistle
is a sport-based anime that follows the character Kazamatsuri Shou as he
plunges into the world of soccer. His dream is to become a professional
soccer player, but after struggling to get into Musashi no Mori a school
famed for it's soccer club, he was only ever given a place with the third
stringers due to his lack of height. He makes the decision to transfer
schools to get a chance to play and comes to Sakura Jyousui. His teacher
Katori-Sensei mistakes him for a Musashi no Mori regular and inadvertently
humiliates him in front of the soccer team when he turns out not to be as
skilled as they then expected. Shou takes several days out from
school determinedly working on his skills as one thing he's not short of
is the desire to improve...
