Gifted with an immense talent for art, Kamina Ayato tries to complete his latest painting. He feels the painting, featuring a girl with a yellow dress standing on a cliff looking at the sea, is incomplete for some reason unknown to him…

Leaving one day for school as any normal high school student, Ayato is caught in an armed conflict in the midst of his beloved Tokyo. He discovers strange machines being used to repel the invaders; using as weapons “Musical Arias” and humans bleeding blue blood, instead of the normal red. Ayato, looking for help, finds a strange girl he recognizes as Mishima, a girl with a yellow dress, which he feels he has a connection to; yet circumstances force her to disappear, leaving Ayato with the desire to find clues about her and about him as well. Also, Ayato is puzzled to discover a strange woman had followed him; promising to tell him “the truth about everything.”

RahXephon falls into a far wider variety than simply Mecha. It represents a visual and intellectual challenge for the viewer. The music is sensational, filled with classical music pieces and orchestral arrangements. The colors displayed through the show help the viewers to relate with the characters. The visual style used it is beautiful and complex and the characters are compelling and mysterious.

Perhaps the best element of RahXephon is the complicated and well-crafted story, filled with numerous twists, romantic situations and technological advance and evolution as a key plot element. The audience will find themselves entangled with the conflict at all times while the characters discover and face the mysteries that surround their existence
