  Gundam Seed Anime Summary

Kira Yamato, an engineering student living on Heliopolis a space station of the neutral country Orb is sucked into the War between the Earth Alliance and ZAFT. His country have broken their policy of neutrality by secretly making 5 GUNDAM mobile suits for the Earth Alliance. ZAFT send an elite troop of young soldiers to steal the mobile suits, including Kira's childhood friend Athrun Zala. When the two meet up after years apart they find themselves on opposite sides of the War.

Kira, a Coordinator (a genetically enhanced human) ends up fighting for the Earth Alliance to protect his friends; Miriallia, Tolle, Sai, Kazui and Fllay who are all Naturals (naturally-born humans) from the attacks of ZAFT. Murrue Ramius the Commander of the battleship Archangel forcibly enlists the students after they see the Earth Alliances new mobile suits and Kira who had to take over piloting the mobile suit STRIKE when Murrue was injured is then called upon in future battles due to his extraordinary piloting abilities. The War has a powerful effect on Kira, a kind-hearted guy, as he constantly agonises over fighting with Athrun and the lives lost at his hand.

Athrun leads the ZAFT team that stole 4 of the 5 Gundam suits. His mother was killed when the Earth Alliance bombed a non-military space colony of Coordinators in an attack that later became known as 'Bloody Valentine' and sparked true hatred in the war between Naturals and Coordinators. He is shocked to come across Kira on his latest mission and cannot understand why Kira insists on fighting with the Earth Alliance. He reluctantly fights Kira, after Kira refuses to join them.

Honestly the plot of this series is very complicated and hard to describe, there are lots of twists and turns and other great characters not even mentioned here. To date Gundam Seed is my favourite out of the Gundam series I've seen and well worth a view, even for those that aren't die-hard mecha fans!
